Hui Pono Holoholona

May 2009

In this issue:

Earth Day Fair 2009

We (HPH) shared information with adults and gave handouts to many of the school children at Hilo Community College's 2009 Earth Fair which was held at UHH.. Our neighbors at the UCB building exhibitors were the Panaewa Rainforest Rain Forest Zoo and Gardens, and a local company demonstrating compostable fast food dinnerware.

Thank you to Vivian Toellner and Corinne Stefanko. Vivian provided handouts for the children: a flip book kit titled Stop Pet Over-Population, Writing to Correct a Wrong, Sound Advice, and Spay Day 2009. She visited during her luchtime, too.
Corinne Stefanko was at our table to hand out HPH pamphlets and asked people to volunteer or signup for our email newsletter, or both. Thank you to Colleen Egbert who made all the arrangements and set up the tables.

We hope to have more HPH animal lovers next year at our table. TOP

The Neuter Scooter is coming to the Big Island and Hui Pono Holoholona is taking this opportunity to hold a Spay and Neuter Clinc on June 6th. The Neuter Scooter, run by Dr. Peavy and family, goes where ever they are needed and makes the operations affordable and convenient for everyone. Your cat will be checked-in in the morning and discharged at the end of the day to recover at home. We have openings for 50 cats on June 6th so be sure to take advantage of this chance to spay or neuter your cats.
For those who are participating in our June 6th clinic:
* MUST bring ferals in live trap
* If you are in need of a live trap, call HPH 968-8279.
* Frannie is willing to train those who are unfamiliar with using a live trap.

* If participating in June 7th clinic and want to free up your live trap please bring an empty pet carrier on June 6th so we can transfer your feral into it after the surgery.
* If you have a Live Trap which is not in use, please call Frannie ASAP.  We want to do as many ferals as possible, and lending us your live traps will be helping as there is a shortage of these traps.  Please call me at 968-8279, all loan traps will be returned.

Billy will make great family dog. He is a Rottweiler mix, neutered, & plays well with other dogs. He needs plenty of exercise in a fenced yard, or jogging with you. He learned ‘sit’ at 8 weeks of age, then ‘stay’, ‘come’, ‘breakfast’, ‘dinner’, & ‘cookie’. Favorite snacks are banana, celery, broccoli, & tangerines! He has had shots, is on flea/tick & heartworm preventive, & is micro-chipped. Born about October 1, 2008. Adoption fee is $80 (same as the Humane Society). I do a home visit prior to adoption. Call 966-6589.

These 2 little boys were abandoned and rescued. They are now at Tasha O'hana which also has another 15 kittens and many dogs that are in need of a home. Please call Laurie at 959-4534 for any adoption inquries.
