Season's Greetings,                                                     December 2013

Hui Pono Holoholona celebrates this Holiday Season with a big Mahalo to all who have supported the activities throughout this year.  Donations of time from volunteers, financial support, pet food/supplies, etc. have been used to help many animals and increase community awareness.

It is also a time to pause at PAWS...yes, we are happy to announce our new animal sanctuary called PAWS (Pono Animal Way Sanctuary).  Located in upper Mountain View on 20 acres, it is presently, a work-in-progress.  The goal is to have three sections.  The first section, is for the felines, we have already built six 10 ft by 30 ft closed kennels.  About 8 cats per kennel is a comfortable number.  There is plenty of space in each kennel for anyone to come and socialize with these remarkable animals, who would love your visit to be combed and brushed. There is also an open covered shelter with 24/7 food stations for resident felines to come and go as they please.   We realize that many of these rescues probably will not be adopted, because people prefer to adopt a kitten rather than an adult cat.  So PAWS is their forever home.

Our office is located on site. Adoptions are by apointment only, and volunteers are welcomed. Our wish list is:  a water tank, solar panels (this area has no electricity available), water pump, metal roofing, kennels, pet food and supplies.  Our second phase or section will be for the canines, and the third and final phase is for horses.  The horse theraputic program would be for 3 to 5 horses to work with the handicapped, abused, or those suffering with PTSD.  Many of our soldiers could benefit from this program as well.

Our spay/neuter program for dogs and cats have been very successful.  We sponsored feline clinics, and this coming 2014 more will be scheduled.  Yes, we have various other spay/neuter programs for dogs and cats done by local Veterinarians,  who offer a reasonable discount.  We ask all who need financial assistance with spay/neutering to contribute what they can, if not now than at some time in the future.  This helps us Stretch Out  what little funds we have to help as many dogs and cats as possible.

Please consider sending a gift to the HPH Spay/Neuter Fund or to the new sanctuary PAWS. Come and adopt a cat, or be their sponsor for life.
